Man sent to prison for sex offences
A LONELY man who sexually preyed on innocent girls as young as four then later raped another young victim when she was 17, has been sentenced to seven years jail by the District Court in Mackay.
The offences occurred at different times, in areas north of Mackay and around the Proserpine region.
“Children deserve protection from any sexual interference” Judge Stuart Durward told the 47year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons.
A psychologist’s report found the offender’s behaviour to be manipulative, exploitive and deviant.
The man pleaded guilty to three counts of in- decent treatment of children under 14, three counts of rape, and two of indecent treatment of children under 16.
Crown evidence revealed some offences occurred when the man was 26 and involved his nieces. One, who was aged about nine, was touched on her genitals when she was in the shower.
One incident involved a girl aged eight and another aged 14, who was staying with him in a motel, where he gave her alcohol before fondling her breasts and genitals.
A nine-year-old girl said the man had been “like an uncle” to her but after giving her lollies he sexually assaulted her while she sat on his lap watching a movie.
The 17-year-old had been raped in a beach house south of Proserpine, the court was told.
The most recent offence, in December 2012, involved a girl aged four. Her mother caught him kissing her passionately on the lips.
Judge Durward said one victim stated she had “lifelong scars from what this man did to her, hidden by a wall of shame” that had robbed her of her childhood, leaving an indelible psychological scar.
The judge accepted that the man was lonely and non-communicative. He will be eligible for parole on December 3, 2016.
