Call out now for govern­ment grants

GOVERN­MENT fund­ing is cur­rently avail­able un­der the Every­one’s En­vi­ron­ment Grants Pro­gram and Dis­abil­ity Com­mu­nity Events Grant.

The Dis­abil­ity Com­mu­nity Events Grants 2014 pro­vides one-off grants for or­gan­i­sa­tions to hold events in the lo­cal com­mu­nity dur­ing Dis­abil­ity Ac­tion Week from Septem­ber 14-20 and / or on the In­ter­na­tional Day of Peo­ple with Dis­abil­ity on De­cem­ber 3.

Whit­sun­day mayor Jennifer Whit­ney said up to $21,400 was avail­able within the re­gion for a num­ber of ap­pli­ca­tions to be con­sid­ered, with an open ten­der process used to in­vite ap­pli­ca­tions from lo­cal or­gan­i­sa­tions.

She said the grants were aimed at pro­mot­ing and strength­en­ing ac­ces­si­bil­ity, in­clu­sion and so­cial and eco­nomic par­tic­i­pa­tion of peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties in the com­mu­nity.

Ap­pli­ca­tions close at 3pm next Mon­day, Au­gust 18.

The Every­one’s En­v­i­ron- ment Grants Pro­gram is also cur­rently seek­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for a wide range of her­itage projects.

In­di­vid­u­als and com­mu­nity groups can ap­ply for $40,000 in fund­ing for projects with a fo­cus on pro­tect­ing Queens­land’s built her­itage.

Or­gan­i­sa­tions that are el­i­gi­ble to ap­ply in­clude non-profit in­cor­po­rated groups or or­gan­i­sa­tions, spe­cial­ist bod­ies es­tab­lished to con­serve or man­age her­itage places and own­ers of places in the Queens­land Her­itage Reg­is­ter or a lo­cal her­itage reg­is­ter who can demon­strate com­mu­nity ben­e­fit in­volve­ment.

Projects which are el­i­gi­ble in­clude those that con­serve orig­i­nal her­itage fea­tures, re­store her­itage parks and gar­dens and im­prove ac­cess and con­tin­ued use of her­itage places by the com­mu­nity.
