THE Airlie Beach/Whitsunday RSL Sub Branch has extended an open invitation to the local community and visitors to attend a memorial service next Monday, August 18, in honour of Vietnam veterans. The service will be held at 11am at the Cannonvale Cenotaph beside the Cannonvale State School.

RSL Sub Branch secretary, Ron James, said the service was dedicated to the memory of all Vietnam veterans as well as the soldiers of D Com- pany 6 RAR, who lost their lives at the battle of Long Tan, in South Vietnam’s Phuoc Tuy Province, on August 18, 1966.

The service will be held in conjunction with the Proserpine RSL Sub Branch, which will allow for all local veterans, visitors, families and friends to catch up and pay their respects.

The service will be followed by a reunion and ‘meet and greet’ at the RSL Rooms at the Reef Gateway Hotel.
