Invitation to the Great Whitsunday Fun Race
A SPECIAL division could be on the cards if 10 or more boats from the Shag Islet Cruising Club (SICYC) enter this year’s Great Whitsunday Fun Race.
The Whitsunday Sailing Club has extended an official invitation to members of the SICYC to join in the special event on Saturday, August 16.
WSC commodore Jim Hayes said all SICYC members were welcome to dress up their boats and crews “and if there are enough entries, [the] Whitsunday Sailing Club will form a special SICYC division in the race”.
Mr Hayes said 10 SICYC boats would be enough to warrant a division, which he thought would be a great feature of the race.
“All SICYC members who take part in Fun Race will be eligible for all prizes and we will also give out a special prize for the SICYC fleet,” he promised, adding that the winner would be judged “by secret means”.
SICYC founder and ‘Vice Commodore’ of Raby Bay, Ken Thackeray, said Fun Race was ideally suited to members of his club.
“They’re a community of fun-loving people, which is the essence of Fun Race and they already have costumes designed for the SICYC Rendezvous, so everything’s ready to go,” he said.
Registration for Fun Race will be held at the Whitsun- day Sailing Club on Friday, August 15 from 5-7pm and Saturday, August 16, from 910am.
The after party, featuring Captain Morgan giveaways, race presentations and plenty more fun, will also be held at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
