Close but no cigar for Spann and Milne

SHANE Spann and Gavin Milne have fallen just short in the Pairs Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons event at Pioneer Val­ley at the week­end.

The pairs did well to make it to the fi­nal on Sun­day af­ter­noon, how­ever this is where their run ended, nar­rowly go­ing down to Mar­ian 18-16.

Spann and Milne de­feated North­ern Beaches 21-9, Glen­den 20-17 and Sub­ur­ban 20-15 to qual­ify for the fi­nal.

Sun­day saw a cou­ple of mixed pairs com­pe­ti­tion games.

Gail Camm and grand­son Matthew Camm got away to a size­able lead over Noelie Dibben and Jim Quod, lead­ing 15-3 af­ter 12 ends.

Then af­ter smoko Noelie and Quod found their range, nar­row­ing the gap to 16-14 af­ter 18 ends.

Matthew and Gail gained a seven on the fol­low­ing end, en­abling them some breath­ing space be­fore even­tu­ally pre­vail­ing 24-18.

In the other game, Lois Read and Rob­bie Tay­lor de­feated Janet Mor­timer and Kevin Thoro­good 26-11.

Twenty-six play­ers turned out for a so­cial game of bowls on Sun­day, boast­ing a plethora of vis­i­tors.

Betty Evans, Norma Daniels, Dot Hin­schen and Sandy Caines proved too strong for Noe­lene Christie, Darelle Rowe, Joy Jef­feries and Gra­ham Ste­wart 26-11.

John Lah­ney, Wayne Han­d­ley and Ron Rowe ran out win­ners 28-10 over Fran Porter, Shane May and Ge­off Creese.

Car­lie Al­bert­son, Arthur Wil­liams and David Long were de­feated by Jeanette Cal­way, John Dam­mash and Joan McGrath 30-19.

Ian Christie, Flo O’Han­lon and Pep­per Evans claimed a 28-18 win over Vealira Ste­wart, Sally Ridge­way and Barbara Dam­mash.

The over­all win­ners on the day with the most ends was the team of Betty Evans, Norma Daniels, Dot Hin­schen and Sandy Caines with 15.

The club would like to thank Wayne Han­d­ley, Kevin Thoro­good and John Lah­ney for at­tend­ing the work­ing bee on Sun­day morn­ing.


Last Wed­nes­day the Club Fours Cham­pi­ons in Janet Mor­timer, Fran Porter, June Blair and Heather Brown trav­elled to Mar­ian to play in the Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons.

The ladies started off well and had con­trol of the game against Seaforth for most of the ends.

A cou­ple of fours lost were their un­do­ing, with the team fall­ing 19-16.

At Proser­pine Gail Camm and Lois Read de­feated Lil­lian Har­ris and Joan McGrath 17-16; John Lah­ney, Flo O’Han­lon and Dot Hin­schen de­feated Darelle Rowe (Solid­ers Point), Noelie Dibben and Joy Jef­fries 18-15; Ann Hare (Her­vey Bay), Cathy Holmes and Pep­per Evans (Coon­abarabran) drew with Norma Daniels, Ron Rowe (Soldiers Point) and Heather Pat­ullo 22-22.

There is a Club Cham­pi­onship Triples game sched­uled to be played on Sun­day, Au­gust 24. Janet Mor­timer, Lil­lian Har­ris and Heather Brown will play Lois Read, Barbara Dam­mash and Ma­ree Daf­fara.

The club will be cater­ing for the Men’s Un­der 200s Car­ni­val this week­end.
