Close but no cigar for Spann and Milne
SHANE Spann and Gavin Milne have fallen just short in the Pairs Champion of Champions event at Pioneer Valley at the weekend.
The pairs did well to make it to the final on Sunday afternoon, however this is where their run ended, narrowly going down to Marian 18-16.
Spann and Milne defeated Northern Beaches 21-9, Glenden 20-17 and Suburban 20-15 to qualify for the final.
Sunday saw a couple of mixed pairs competition games.
Gail Camm and grandson Matthew Camm got away to a sizeable lead over Noelie Dibben and Jim Quod, leading 15-3 after 12 ends.
Then after smoko Noelie and Quod found their range, narrowing the gap to 16-14 after 18 ends.
Matthew and Gail gained a seven on the following end, enabling them some breathing space before eventually prevailing 24-18.
In the other game, Lois Read and Robbie Taylor defeated Janet Mortimer and Kevin Thorogood 26-11.
Twenty-six players turned out for a social game of bowls on Sunday, boasting a plethora of visitors.
Betty Evans, Norma Daniels, Dot Hinschen and Sandy Caines proved too strong for Noelene Christie, Darelle Rowe, Joy Jefferies and Graham Stewart 26-11.
John Lahney, Wayne Handley and Ron Rowe ran out winners 28-10 over Fran Porter, Shane May and Geoff Creese.
Carlie Albertson, Arthur Williams and David Long were defeated by Jeanette Calway, John Dammash and Joan McGrath 30-19.
Ian Christie, Flo O’Hanlon and Pepper Evans claimed a 28-18 win over Vealira Stewart, Sally Ridgeway and Barbara Dammash.
The overall winners on the day with the most ends was the team of Betty Evans, Norma Daniels, Dot Hinschen and Sandy Caines with 15.

Last Wednesday the Club Fours Champions in Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, June Blair and Heather Brown travelled to Marian to play in the Champion of Champions.
The ladies started off well and had control of the game against Seaforth for most of the ends.
A couple of fours lost were their undoing, with the team falling 19-16.
At Proserpine Gail Camm and Lois Read defeated Lillian Harris and Joan McGrath 17-16; John Lahney, Flo O’Hanlon and Dot Hinschen defeated Darelle Rowe (Soliders Point), Noelie Dibben and Joy Jeffries 18-15; Ann Hare (Hervey Bay), Cathy Holmes and Pepper Evans (Coonabarabran) drew with Norma Daniels, Ron Rowe (Soldiers Point) and Heather Patullo 22-22.
There is a Club Championship Triples game scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 24. Janet Mortimer, Lillian Harris and Heather Brown will play Lois Read, Barbara Dammash and Maree Daffara.
The club will be catering for the Men’s Under 200s Carnival this weekend.
