Veterans pack golf course for Wintersun
ON MONDAY and Tuesday last week more than 150 veteran golfers took part in the annual Wintersun Championship.
The Proserpine Golf Club hosted players from as far as Darwin and Nowra (New South Wales), with old friends catching up for the 36-hole tournament played over two days.
The men’s winner on the day was Terry Bulger (Yeppoon), who carded a gross score of 150, with Charlestown’s Greg Kent finishing in second.
Pam Lindeberg (Sarina) was victorious in the ladies field, claiming 66 stableford points.
Local Ross Meade was the A-grade nett winner, finishing with 144 to eclipse Hervey Bay’s Peter Sharp (145).
It was a Proserpine quinella in the B-grade field, with Victor Feldman (143) and Tony Woolridge (146) sharing the spoils.
Tina Badenhorst flew the flag for the Proserpine women in the B-grade competition, carding 64 to finish just behind Gladstone’s Halina Beale (65).
Caroline Awdry was victorious in the C-grade division, finishing with 62 while Bernice Petersen claimed the 70+ trophy for her round of 61.
The Wintersun Championship continued this week in Mackay.
