Vet­er­ans pack golf course for Win­ter­sun

ON MON­DAY and Tues­day last week more than 150 vet­eran golfers took part in the an­nual Win­ter­sun Cham­pi­onship.

The Proser­pine Golf Club hosted play­ers from as far as Dar­win and Nowra (New South Wales), with old friends catch­ing up for the 36-hole tour­na­ment played over two days.

The men’s win­ner on the day was Terry Bul­ger (Yep­poon), who carded a gross score of 150, with Charlestown’s Greg Kent fin­ish­ing in sec­ond.

Pam Lin­de­berg (Sa­rina) was vic­to­ri­ous in the ladies field, claim­ing 66 sta­ble­ford points.

Lo­cal Ross Meade was the A-grade nett win­ner, fin­ish­ing with 144 to eclipse Her­vey Bay’s Peter Sharp (145).

It was a Proser­pine quinella in the B-grade field, with Vic­tor Feld­man (143) and Tony Wool­ridge (146) shar­ing the spoils.

Tina Baden­horst flew the flag for the Proser­pine women in the B-grade com­pe­ti­tion, card­ing 64 to fin­ish just be­hind Glad­stone’s Halina Beale (65).

Caro­line Awdry was vic­to­ri­ous in the C-grade divi­sion, fin­ish­ing with 62 while Ber­nice Petersen claimed the 70+ tro­phy for her round of 61.

The Win­ter­sun Cham­pi­onship con­tin­ued this week in Mackay.
