Karate kids shine in Sydney
THE Whitsunday Kyokushin Karate Club has returned stunning results from the Australian Championships in Sydney earlier this month.
Dallas Woodham, Liam Tomas and Guy Thrupp starred at the two-day event, winning their respective divisions.
Dallas claimed the under-12s kata while Liam triumphed in the 8-9 years male kumite. Thrupp dominated the men’s middleweight full contact division, enabling the club to boast three winners on the na- tional stage. Dallas also finished second in the 10-12 years male kumite while Ryan Stephens claimed a third in the same division. In total, the club had 20 members participate at the national championships – impressive numbers for a regional club against the might of bigger cities like Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Proserpine’s Duane Franke also excelled at his first tournament. For more information from the Kyokushin Karate Club, contact Belinda Woodham at email@example.com
