Pentathlon day a success for Whitsunday Athletics Club
NORTH Queensland’s budding track stars hit Proserpine State High School on Saturday morning to contest the Whitsunday Athletics Club’s pentathlon.
More than 170 athletes took to Proserpine at the weekend, defying blustery conditions to compete against the region’s best.
Competitors ranged from four to 50 years of age, with each division hotly contested in the five event format.
Whitsunday Athletics Club president was thrilled with the turnout and praised all volunteers and parents for their assis- tance, with the weather making proceedings difficult at times.
Tristan Sainsbury and Daley Moore excelled in the eight and nine year boys fields, while Sahra Donnelly and Cooper Lane triumphed against the 11 year girls and boys.
Lachlan Jensen (12 year boys), Amy Hungerford (13 year girls), Heidi Moore (14 year girls), Kris Walker (14 year boys) and Dean Searle (16 year boys) also won their divisions, as the club finished the day with nine age titles from a possible 28 events.
