WHITSUNDAY boxer Jake Brown has KO’d crowds in Rockhampton at the weekend, winning a Central Queensland title belt.

The 16-year-old Whitsunday Christian College student won his fight on Saturday, taking down Bribie Island opponent Jessie Bailey on a unanimous points decision.

Jake, who has won the Australian Amateur Title two years running, impressed all in attendance in Rockhampton, claiming the Fighter of the Night award for the best effort out of all 31 bouts. Jake’s father Carl said the fight was “tough” but a well deserved result for his son who trains three times a week, spars on Saturday mornings and plays AFL to boot.

His training also includes sessions with Anton Zafir and the Whitsunday Martial Arts Club, which Carl believes has steeled Jake for success.

Jake’s next challenge is the Queensland Titles in Cairns on September 19-21.

BRIGHT BOXER: Whitsunday's Jake Brown, right, with Bribie Island's Jessie Bailey after their fight in Rockhampton on Saturday night.
