Whitsundays to celebrate Seniors Week
SENIORS Week, from August 16-24, is an opportunity for Whitsunday residents to celebrate and recognise the important contribution our senior citizens make to the community.
Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney said senior citizens were valuable members of the community and Seniors Week provided an opportunity to honour them.
“Seniors are an asset to our region - they are a wealth of knowledge and have contributed to the history of our community in so many ways,” she said.
Cr Whitney encouraged locals to attend one of the special Seniors Week morning teas throughout the region over the next week. The event for Proserpine and Airlie Beach will be held today (Thursday, August 14) at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre from 10-11am. It will include morning tea, the cutting of a cake and Morning Melodies with Simon Gallagher.
Bowen’s Seniors Week event is next Tues- day, August 19, at the Bowen PCYC, from 1011am, where a Merinda School skipping demonstration will follow morning tea.
The Collinsville event will take place at the Collinsville Community Centre from 9.3010.30am on Thursday, August 21. Following morning tea, games and activities will be held. Throughout Seniors Week, each of the three regional libraries will have a book display that celebrates and recognises senior citizens.
