Whit­sun­days to cel­e­brate Se­niors Week

SE­NIORS Week, from Au­gust 16-24, is an op­por­tu­nity for Whit­sun­day res­i­dents to cel­e­brate and recog­nise the im­por­tant con­tri­bu­tion our se­nior cit­i­zens make to the com­mu­nity.

Whit­sun­day mayor Jennifer Whit­ney said se­nior cit­i­zens were valu­able mem­bers of the com­mu­nity and Se­niors Week pro­vided an op­por­tu­nity to hon­our them.

“Se­niors are an as­set to our re­gion - they are a wealth of knowl­edge and have con­trib­uted to the his­tory of our com­mu­nity in so many ways,” she said.

Cr Whit­ney en­cour­aged lo­cals to at­tend one of the spe­cial Se­niors Week morn­ing teas through­out the re­gion over the next week. The event for Proser­pine and Air­lie Beach will be held to­day (Thurs­day, Au­gust 14) at the Proser­pine Entertainment Cen­tre from 10-11am. It will in­clude morn­ing tea, the cut­ting of a cake and Morn­ing Melodies with Si­mon Gal­lagher.

Bowen’s Se­niors Week event is next Tues- day, Au­gust 19, at the Bowen PCYC, from 1011am, where a Merinda School skip­ping demon­stra­tion will fol­low morn­ing tea.

The Collinsville event will take place at the Collinsville Com­mu­nity Cen­tre from 9.3010.30am on Thurs­day, Au­gust 21. Fol­low­ing morn­ing tea, games and ac­tiv­i­ties will be held. Through­out Se­niors Week, each of the three re­gional li­braries will have a book dis­play that cel­e­brates and recog­nises se­nior cit­i­zens.
