Win­ter­sun suc­cess for vets in Mackay

PROSER­PINE golfers have en­joyed suc­cess at the Vet­er­ans Win­ter­sun Car­ni­val in Mackay.

An­thony Woodridge won the B-grade ti­tle with a gross score of 356 (284 nett), while Vic Feld­man fin­ished third in the gross scores and sec­ond in the nett.

Peter Brown­ing claimed the sixth best nett score (303) while Barry Mor­timer ranked sev­enth in gross (382).

Harry Gel­latly fin­ished with the sec­ond best nett score (292) in the C-grade field, while Clive Hughes made the top 10 for both gross (413) and nett (307) scores.

Of the ladies, Ber­nice Petersen was the high­est ranked golfer in sixth po­si­tion (117 -points).

Kath Borer fin­ished 12th with 104-points.

The C-grade field saw Caro­line Awdry claim fourth with 118-points.

The club also had play­ers con­test Win­ter­sun events in Sa­rina and Pi­o­neer Val­ley and look for­ward to more suc­cess in 2015.

Closer to home, the vet­eran golfers hit the course on Tues­day af­ter­noon.

Bill Woods claimed the 18hole com­pe­ti­tion with 38, ahead of An­drew Mackay (36), Bill Jesser (35), Rus­sell Rear­don (34), Nick Apruzzese, Tom Flem­ing, Tony Wool­ridge and Caro­line Awdry (33).Bill Woods and Jan Shuwalow won near­est-the-pins.

Mackay won the nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion, win­ning on a count­back from Wool­ridge, Apruzzese and Beryl Nos­wor­thy (19).

Steve Barry, Bill Jesser and Bill Woods (18) fin­ished in the ball run­down.

Caro­line Awdry and Tony Wool­ridge were near­est-thepin re­cip­i­ents.
