Junior Raiders ready for sign-on WFC thrashes front-runners

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

WHITSUNDAY Football Club’s (WFC) premier men have continued their lateseason resurgence by issuing a pasting to the Lions at the weekend.

Last year’s grand finalists led just 1-0 at halftime, before running in a miraculous five goals in the second 45 minutes to thrash the competition’s ladder leaders.

The win doesn’t change the team’s ladder position (currently third), however the ominous performance does issue a warning to the rest of the competition.

In other results, MCL went down to Sarina Saints 6-1 while the reserves ousted Lions 2-1.

This weekend the reserves and the premier men will return to the Whitsunday Sportspark to face Magpies, while the premier women hit the road for an encounter with Lions.

THE Whitsunday Junior Rugby Union Club will host its sign-on tomorrow.

The club is encouraging interested juniors to attend the Whitsunday Sportspark from 6pm, ahead of the 10-week season.

Grades are available for under-6s, 8s, 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s and registration costs $50 per player.

The night will be about learning the skills of rugby union before finishing off the night with Viking Cup games.

Four carnivals have been arranged throughout the season against Mackay, Burdekin, central highlands and Townsville teams.
