Norder named QLD co-or­di­na­tor of the year

A WHIT­SUN­DAY Aus­kick co-or­di­na­tor has won the state’s high­est hon­our fol­low­ing years of ded­i­cated ser­vice to the sport.

Rick Norder will be an­nounced Queens­land AFL Aus­kick Co-or­di­na­tor of the Year to­day af­ter he was nom­i­nated by AFL Mackay devel­op­ment co-or­di­na­tor Dion Obst.

As well as win­ning the award, Norder will also re­ceive a trip to Mel­bourne, two nights ac­com­mo­da­tion at Crown, a tour of AFL House and two tick­ets to a fi­nals match while also at­tend­ing the awards din­ner on Fri­day night.

Norder has close to 10 years ser­vice and has been tremen­dous vol­un­teer ac­cord­ing to Obst.

“On be­half of AFL Queens­land we’d like to thank Rick for his ef­forts. He has been a fan­tas­tic as­set for Whit­sun­day Aus­kick and AFLQ,” he said.

This is the sec­ond time in five years the Whit­sun­day Aus­kick co-or­di­na­tor has won the award – Jamie Fuhrmann was the other re­cip­i­ent.

Norder’s ef­forts were on show for all to see on Satur­day morn­ing at the Whit­sun­day Sportspark, as the re­gion’s bud­ding Aus­kick­ers hosted Hamil­ton Is­land’s crop of stars.

The two groups held a skills ses­sion be­fore con­test­ing an en­ter­pris­ing game, which acted as the cur­tain­raiser for the se­nior Sea Ea­gles.

Other ju­nior re­sults from the week­end saw the Whit­sun­day un­der-13s claim a thrilling draw with North Mackay on Satur­day.

Lach­lan Draper booted three goals as the Sea Ea­gles drew 6.4.40 to 5.10.40.

Max Cor­nish and Mitchell Healey were also prom­i­nent on the day.

The un­der-15s won an equally close en­counter, get­ting the bet­ter of the Saints 63-60.

Hud­son McGre­gor, Rhys Fuhrmann, Mitch Healey and Zane Kennedy each kicked two goals, while Lach­lan Spin­ner was best on ground.

The un­der-18s pro­duced one of their best ef­forts of the year on Satur­day morn­ing, ul­ti­mately go­ing down North Mackay 84-51.

The colts haven’t won a game in 2014, but tried their hearts out at the week­end, led ably by Rhys Furhmann, Jake Brown and Alex Rodgers.

Matthew Jenk­ins booted three goals while Stephen Cham­bers chimed in with two ma­jors.
