Building to start on first stage of playground
SUNDAY was all sunshine and laughter at the Logan’s Adventure Playground Family Fun Day in Cannonvale with stage one of the playground set to begin construction early next month.
Up to 200 parents, children, grandparents and their dogs came along for a sausage sizzle, enjoyed the live music and took advantage of the free entertainment.
The day featured the turning of the sod by Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jennifer Whitney and event organiser Kellie Chart to mark an exciting new chapter in the Whitsundays.
After almost three years of planning, construction on stage one of Logan’s Adventure Playground will begin in the first weeks of September which will include earthworks provided by council, some landscaping, the front fence and one piece of equipment.
The family fun day had an incredible display of community support with Whitsunday PCYC, Men’s Shed, Whitsunday Coast Scout Group and the Fat Frog Beach Cafe taking part or making a donation.
Fat Frog Beach Cafe in Cannonvale donated a $1 per coffee sold on the Sunday, raising a total of $147.
While celebrating the commencement of stage one, the day was also a fundraiser for stage two.
A total of $3788 was raised with an additional $2500 to be collected from fence pickets sold on the day.
Ms Chart said the playground was all about the community coming together to make it happen and has no doubt that future stages will only be bigger and better. “I’m extremely happy the day was such a success, the more money we raise means stage two will be bigger and include more equipment,” she said.
An ‘80s themed fundraiser for stage two of Logan’s Adventure Playground will be held on October 3 at Anchor Bar in the Whitsunday Terraces.
