Proserpine Police ready to take to the touch footy field
PROSERPINE Police have entered a team in the second annual Mackay District Police and Emergency Services touch football tournament which will be played in Mackay this Sunday, August 31.
The event is a fundraiser for the Childrens Ward of the Mackay Base Hospital.
Last year the Proserpine Boars made the knockout stages but narrowly missed the B-grade final, losing to Northern Beaches Station in a controversial encounter marred by injuries and contentious referring decisions.
This year the team hopes to do one better.
Senior Constable Dominic Cross said the games were a fun and ca- sual way to get out and about in the community.
The team is looking forward to a fun game but they do want to win.
The team is captained by Mark Flynn who is the senior statesmen of the side.
The day consists of three pool games and then finals matches.
Proserpine is the only Police Station in the Whitsunday Shire to enter a team this year and will represent the Northern division of the Mackay Police District.
Teams from Mackay Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, local media and the Mackay Base Hospital have also entered.
