Former champion set to compete in Spain
PROSERPINE local and former Australian Supermoto premiere class champion Andy McLeish is currently exploring and riding in the outback of Western Australia and has been offered the chance to take his talent to Spain.
He is currently staying in Baldivis, Western Australia where he has been sponsored by CRUSHTEX operators Bryan and Michelle Rankian to practice and race there.
CRUSHTEX sponsored the 2014 Australian Supermoto Championships at the Whitsunday Raceway in June this year, where McLeish placed second in his division, defeated by former world champion Troy Bayliss. McLeish competed in his first Western Australian race on Sunday at the West Moto Park Supermoto Midwest Shoot Out.
He said he always wore his Whitsunday Motosports Club tracksuit proudly wherever in the world he was racing.
At the age of 21, McLeish’s career has already taken him to Europe, United Kingdom and Scotland and he is currently considering an international opportunity depending on his finances.
He has been offered a spot in the 2015 Spain and World Supermoto Championships after being scouted by a supermoto academy in Spain earlier this year.
He is currently the first pick of one of four riders for a one-rider team.
Grateful for the chance to see the world while competing in his dream industry, McLeish said he has felt the financial strain of it all.
“I’m so thankful for all the support I have had so far, my sponsors mean the world to me – without them I couldn’t do any of it.” Ideally, McLeish would head over to Spain in October where he would be based in Valencia and train there until the championship but that all depends on his financial situation.
Anyone who is interested in sponsoring McLeish can contact the Whitsunday Motosports Club for more information at email@example.com
