Under-18s claw Tigers to keep finals hopes alive
THE premiership aspirations of the under-18 Brahmans are alive following a testing 17-10 victory over Wests Tigers at the weekend.
Whitsunday proved too strong in the elimination final on Sunday, in what was a much more disciplined performance following last week’s thrashing.
A close match ensued in the first half, with Wests first to post points.
It wasn’t until the dying stages of the opening 40 minutes when the Brahmans opened their scoring account, squaring the ledger at 4-4 shortly before the break.
Whitsunday came out in the second half intent on keeping its season alive; however the Tigers would again eek ahead, this time through a converted try.
The young bulls rallied to score two tries in quick succession, gaining the lead for the first time in the match.
Whitsunday held its composure for the tense final moments, before sealing a semi-final berth with a Kieran Anderson field-goal.
The 17-10 result means the Brahmans will now play the minor premiers in Souths Sharks on Sunday morning at the Mackay Junior Rugby League Fields.
The winner of this match will play Brothers in the grand final the following week.
