Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

FIREFIGHTERS were still working to control a large blaze at Midge Point at the time of going to print late yesterday afternoon.

Five rural fire crews and a senior fire officer were at the scene of the blaze, which was moving in a northwesterly direction and at the time did not pose any threat to property.

Police had door-knocked houses in the area, telling residents to take precautionary measures.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the rear flank of the fire had been brought under control and crews were working to secure both the northern and southern areas of the blaze.
