Whit­sun­day po­lice are seek­ing as­sis­tance to re­cover stolen ri­fles

WHIT­SUN­DAY Po­lice are seek­ing the as­sis­tance of the pub­lic in re­cov­er­ing a num­ber of weapons stolen from a gun safe.

The safe, con­tain­ing three ri­fles, was inside a stor­age shed lo­cated in Can­non­vale and bro­ken into some time be­tween Septem­ber 22-29.

Of­fi­cer in Charge of the Whit­sun­day Po­lice Sta­tion, Act­ing Se­nior Sergeant Brad Teys, said the thief or thieves forced the shed open and cut into the safe, re­mov­ing three ri­fles and a pel­i­can ri­fle case, be­fore leav­ing the scene and head­ing in an un­known di­rec­tion.

He de­scribed the ri­fles as quite dis­tinc­tive, one be­ing a Miroku .22 lever-ac­tion ri­fle with wood grain and blue metal, another a Rem­ing­ton .308 tan colour bolt-ac­tion ri­fle and the last a Rem­ing­ton .22 Mag­num 700 bolt-ac­tion ri­fle, olive green in colour.

“Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing and are run­ning out a num­ber of leads and are seek­ing the as­sis­tance of the pub­lic to iden­tify the per­pe­tra­tors,” Act. Snr Sgt Teys said.
