Whitsunday police are seeking assistance to recover stolen rifles
WHITSUNDAY Police are seeking the assistance of the public in recovering a number of weapons stolen from a gun safe.
The safe, containing three rifles, was inside a storage shed located in Cannonvale and broken into some time between September 22-29.
Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Teys, said the thief or thieves forced the shed open and cut into the safe, removing three rifles and a pelican rifle case, before leaving the scene and heading in an unknown direction.
He described the rifles as quite distinctive, one being a Miroku .22 lever-action rifle with wood grain and blue metal, another a Remington .308 tan colour bolt-action rifle and the last a Remington .22 Magnum 700 bolt-action rifle, olive green in colour.
“Police are investigating and are running out a number of leads and are seeking the assistance of the public to identify the perpetrators,” Act. Snr Sgt Teys said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Whitsunday Police Station on 4948 8888.
