Marketing executive is state finalist for tourism award
WHITSUNDAYS Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) marketing executive Natassia ‘Tash’ Wheeler has been selected as Queensland’s state finalist for the 2014 Young Tourism Professionals Award by the Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN).
Each year, the ARTN recognises young leaders who are considered key contributors to the development of Australia’s regional tourism industry through the Young Tourism Professionals Award.
WMDL Chief Executive Officer Danial Rochford said this was “basically an emerging leaders award” and he congratulated Ms Wheeler on the nomination.
“Tash has done an incredible job in promoting regional tourism in Australia and since commencing her role at WMDL has continuously pushed to grow opportunities for our local tourism operators here in the Whitsundays,” he said.
“It is clear that Tash has got a strong passion for regional tourism and her knowledge, commitment and passion is an absolute benefit to WMDL and our local tourism industry,”
Ms Wheeler said she was overwhelmed and excited to be selected as state finalist for the award.
“I am very passionate about developing regional tourism opportunities, particularly in Queensland and the announcement is a great honour,” she said.
Ms Wheeler began her career in tourism and marketing with a traineeship in 2005 and has since completed her Diploma in Tourism.
She has worked for several Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO’s) in Queensland, as well as the state tourism organisation, Tourism and Events Queensland.
She was also the key driver behind a newly formed network group, YAH (Young At Heart), aimed at enhancing development opportunities for tourism professionals in the Whitsundays region.
The winner of the 2014 Young Tourism Professional Award will be announced at the ARTN Convention in Port Stephens from October 20-24.
Ms Wheeler will attend the convention, where she will present on a topic of her choice and be judged on a number of criteria.
The winner of the award receives a bursary for professional development, a year’s access to the ‘My Travel’ research database and becomes an ex-officio board member of the ARTN.
