WHITSUNDAY Toastmasters have welcomed eight new members to their club.

Over the last couple of months, the Whitsudnay Toastmasters has gone from six members to a total of 18.

With some members being a part of the club for up to 22 years, the recent expansion has the committee excited for the future of toastmasters in the region.

Whitsunday Toastmasters president Greg Hammon hopes the growth goes from strength to strength.

“Everyone in the world should be a member of toastmasters. The things we do [and] the confidence we built is incredible and you also score some free pizza,” he laughed.

The Whitsundays Toastmasters club are a community group who meet twice a month to assist, mentor, coach and provide a supportive and learning experience for people wanting to develop communication and leadership skills.

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere.

They are currently conducting an communication and leadership workshop called ‘Speech Craft’ every Tuesday night.

These workshops run over seven weeks and allow existing members to further improve their personal development as well as motivate new participants in the art of public speaking.

Tuesday’s meeting featured long-time toastmasters Dave and Lesley Pratchett, who have been part of the toastmasters club in Calen for 16 years.
