Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

THERE will be a social media spotlight on the Whitsundays this week with an “instameet”.

Tourism and Events Queensland is encouraging visitors and locals in the Whitsundays to take part in the event this Saturday, October 4.

The registered spots for taking part are Abell Point Marina, the Bowen Cup and Daydream island.

It is a social media event which aims to become the world’s biggest ‘Instameet’ in order to showcase the region.

There are 69 locations in Queensland – and three of them are right here in the Whitsundays.

Being a long weekend, it is hoped many visitors will take part in this event.

The idea is to share your images of our region. Given the ever increasing power of social media, this is a great way to promote the Whitsundays to the world.

The instameet is being held on Daydream Island at 10am, the Bowen Races from 12.30pm and Abell Point Marina from 5pm.

For more information on the Queensland Instameet and the registered events in the Whitsundays visit www.queensstameet.

Meanwhile, there is a story on page 5 today about the Whitsundays being named the number two destination in Australia in a consumer poll by a company called Experience Oz.

This is great news for the region as it continues to promote the area as a great place to visit.

Have a happy long weekend.
