OUTRIGGER Whitsunday’s juniors have returned from the Sunshine Coast with a handful of medals.

Tyson Joyce, Ashleigh Suchanek, Brooke Draper, Ashton Joyce, Nathan Ponoom and Daniel Nordor contested the National Titles for OC1 and OC2 events as well as the Trans Tasman Gubbi Gubbi Champion- ships, where juniors from New Zealand and the Cook Islands also competed.

Kawana hosted the event, which saw Ashleigh claim bronze in the OC2 marathon with her partner from the Coconuts Club.

Following the nationals, the juniors contested the three-day Trans Tasman event, where Tyson partic- ularly impressed. Tyson claimed two silvers in the under-21s 1000m with three turns and 500m straight races.

He also picked up a bronze in the under-19s 500m straight.

Daniel also paddled strongly in his maiden regatta, much to the delight of coach Adam Joyce.

“These are great results mixing it with the best from Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands for the kids from Whitsunday,” he said.

“This is the beginning of a world cup campaign for some of these juniors in 2016.”
