Bumper school holidays for Whitsundays tourism

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

THE Whitsundays has experienced a bumper school holiday period, with occupancy levels near capacity over the past couple of weeks.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) Executive Director, Jeff Aquilina, said it was refreshing to see the towns and Whitsunday islands buzzing with visitors enjoying time with their families and friends.

“Most of our operators across Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday islands have reported occupancy levels around 90 and even 95 per cent which is a great success,” he said.

“[And] strong forward bookings indicate that we will continue to see our towns and islands busy with visitors over the summer months.”

Hamilton Island’s General Manager of Sales, Phillipa Harrison, said Hamilton Island had experienced its highest year on year occupancy to date, a trend she anticipated would continue, thanks to the return of Qantas to the region and their recent introduction of the new Brisbane to Hamilton Island route.

“Both the Qantas Brisbane and Sydney to Hamilton Island routes address the growing demand among domestic and international travellers looking for a seamless, premium travel experience to the island,” she said.

“This increased ease of access will see the popularity of the Whitsundays grow, not only within Australia but on the global stage as well.”
