Tourism operators to become visitors again
THIS Saturday, Whitsunday local tourism professionals are invited to go back to basics and remember why they fell in love with the region in the first place.
Young at Heart (YAH), the Whitsundays’ young tourism network, will be hosting a mega familiarisation tour [famil] of Airlie Beach on Saturday, October 11.
This tour is open to tourism professionals of any calibre and most importantly, those who are young at heart. The idea of the famil is to equip locals with the knowledge to become genuine ambassadors of the Whitsundays.
The tour will include breakfast at Cannonvale Beach, a fun-filled itinerary of activities and site inspections throughout Airlie Beach and will conclude at the new Cruise Whitsunday maritime terminal at the Port of Airlie.
Some of the activities will include stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, robo (segway style) tours, lunch at the Airlie Beach Hotel and afterwards drinks at Denman Cellars Beer Cafe.
The event will give YAH members, travel agents, hospitality staff and interested tourism professionals an opportunity to gain knowledge and an operational insight into the many local visitor attractions.
YAH committee member and event organiser Chelsea Hauschka said the Airlie Beach mega famil would be a way to remind locals firsthand of what the visitors are experiencing.
“It may sound like a simple initiative but often changes in staff and the opening of new attractions mean that not all tourism operators are aware of what their fellow operators are doing or offering. The message we are relaying to the community is that we all need to be ambassadors for our region and its attractions.
“We all have a stake in the success of tourism and the economic opportunities it presents,” she said.
Anyone who is interested in attending the YAH Whitsunday Airlie Beach mega famil should email the committee at YAHWhitsunday@gmail.com before Saturday.
