Save the date for karaoke at club

Whitsunday Times - - CHILL -

STAFF and management at Proserpine’s ExServices Club are asking locals to ‘save the date’ for the next instalment of karaoke on Friday, October 17.

Club manager Jo-Ann Kielly said this was a follow-up to last month’s inaugural event, which proved hugely popular with families from the local area and surrounds.

“It’s a laugh, it’s fun – just seeing someone getting up there and singing is enjoyable,” she said.

Ms Kielly said due to the club’s current financial problems, the idea for running karaoke sessions came from Scott Neale, whose business Karaoke Stars has a regular following at the Metropole on Saturday nights.

“But with the RSL being more family oriented, this is so those people that can’t get out on a Saturday night can experience that here, because their kids are here too,” she said.

Ms Kielly said the Ex-Services Club was equipped with a kids’ room, complete with movies, X-Box games, a play area, and even a ‘retro’ Space Invaders machine with about 50 different games.

“And the kids can get up and sing – Scott’s got lots of kids’ songs too,” she said.

Mr Neale is currently providing his karaoke services free of charge to help the club in its financial hour of need and Ms Kielly is hoping the Whitsunday community will follow suit by turning out in force to next Friday’s event.

“Karaoke’s not going to be the ‘end-all’ of everything but a lot of people really like it,” she said. “And Scott’s got a huge array of music – the biggest I’ve seen in a long time, and we’re very appreciative of it.”

Next Friday’s karaoke night will start after the regular members draw and raffles, at 7.30pm. Bistro food and pizzas are available as well as a full bar.

There is no cover charge.

ON A HIGH NOTE: Proserpine Ex-Services Club manager Jo-Ann Kielly and Mel Muller got carried away at the inaugural karaoke session last month.
