Art now on show
A NEW exhibition is now on display in the back room gallery of the Art Whitsunday store in the Whitsunday Shopping Centre.
For the month of October, a combined exhibition of the works of Art Whitsunday members Jacqui Henderson and Dot Smith endeavours to inspire and regenerate art culture in the region.
Ms Henderson’s artworks, titled ‘My Journey So Far’, are a collection of her art from 2009 to now.
Her journey as an artist started in 2011 after painting a picture of a Beach Stone Curlew.
Viewers can expect a couple of bird paintings displaying bold colours, fearless contrasts and audacious lines.
After a few art classes in 2013, Ms Henderson started using different mediums to develop her style.
In her recent works, she uses Atelier Interactive Acrylic paints as she claims they are lightfast and made of pigments of the finest quality.
Ms Henderson hopes her work inspires anyone who is interested in the field.
“It’s a chance to see what you can do – what’s actually in you when you don’t even know its there,” she said.
Dot Smith’s artworks on display, titled ‘Out on a Limb’, focuses on human portraiture.
Her subjects range from reallife to abstract and caricature to smaller sensual figures.
Also on display are her sculptures, one-off pieces that are hand built in clay, kiln fired and hand painted.
Ms Smith encourages everyone to make the most of the local talent in the area.
“There is so much stuff being sold that’s been bought overseas [but] this is uniquely Australian, not only uniquely Australian but uniquely Whitsundays,” she said. The exhibitions will be on display at the back room gallery in Art Whitsunday’s Cannonvale store until November 1.
NEW EXHIBITION: Art Whitsunday members Jacqui Henderson and Dot Smith invite everyone to their joint exhibition which is currently on display at The Back Room of Art Whitsunday’s shop in Whitsunday Shopping Centre.
