Whit­sun­day golfers ace Mag­gie Is­land

WHIT­SUN­DAY GOLF

EIGH­TEEN Whit­sun­day golfers trav­elled to Mag­netic Is­land for a feast of golf over the long week­end, con­test­ing a two-ball am­brose on Satur­day and a stroke com­pe­ti­tion on Sun­day.

The nine-hole course made for a dif­fer­ent scene for the Whit­sun­day Golf Club, who is usu­ally ac­cus­tomed to play­ing at the Proser­pine Golf Course.

Kerry Hall and Kym Hill were vic­to­ri­ous on day one, pro­duc­ing a nett score of 59.75 to fin­ish ahead of Tessa Aitken and Stan Hoy (60).

Bren­dan Me­harry and Ron Jamieson fin­ished third with 61, while the near­est-the-pins, spon­sored by Jamieson, were claimed by Mick Cooper and Ian Giles (no. 2), Wilf Her­weg and Ti­ina Rand­mae (4) and Kym Hill and Kerry Hall (5 and 6).

Mick Cooper pre­vailed in the Sun­day com­pe­ti­tion, card­ing a round of 55 to clear Wilf Her­weg (57).

The gross score win­ner and long­est drive went to Bren­don Me­harry.

Linda Wardroper bested the ladies’ field with 51, while Tessa Aitken fin­ished sec­ond with 57.

Anna Win­ter­bourn net­ted the best gross score and the long­est drive.

Near­est-the-pins were claimed by Mick Cooper, Stan Hoy and Penny Wardroper. This Sun­day the club will re­turn to the Proser­pine course to contest the four-ball cham­pi­onships. Tee-off is at 7.30am.
