New com­mit­tee set for bowls club

PROSER­PINE BOWLS

A NEW com­mit­tee has been fi­nalised with fa­mil­iar faces fol­low­ing the Proser­pine Bowls Club’s An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing (AGM) last week.

Po­si­tions are mostly the same from pre­vi­ous com­mit­tees, with Brian Cooke (pa­tron), Philip Brown (pres­i­dent), Shane Spann (se­nior vice-pres­i­dent), Dale Haack (ju­nior vice-pres­i­dent and provi­dore), Martin Corr (sec­re­tary), Wayne Han­d­ley (as­sis­tant sec­re­tary, as­sis­tant trea­surer and greens’ di­rec­tor), Kevin Thorogood (trea­surer), Barry Saroglia (games’ di­rec­tor) all on board.

Other com­mit­tee mem­bers in­clude Shane May, Dan Robin­son, John Hen­der­son, John Lah­ney, Ross Reville and Jim Quod while the se­lec­tors are Shane Spann, Wayne Han­d­ley and Barry Saroglia. The match com­mit­tee in­cludes Philip Brown, Martin Corr and Barry Saroglia and the club in­tends to nomi- nate for di­vi­sions 1 and 5 in 2015. On Sun­day af­ter­noon 12 play­ers en­joyed ideal con­di­tions at the Proser­pine Bowls Club.

Arthur Wil­liams, Dot Hin­schen and Kevin Thorogood took down Fran Porter, Philip Brown and Gail Camm 25-11 while Jeanette Cal­way, Bar­bara Dam­mash and Rob Tay­lor de­feated John Lah­ney, John Dam­mash and Heather Brown 22-15.

The club had a work­ing bee on Mon­day morn­ing and would like to thank ev­ery­one in attendance for their as­sis­tance.

LADIES

Last Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon there were some great bowls played in two games of Con­sis­tency Sin­gles and three games of Se­nior Sin­gles.

Joan McGrath (123) de­feated Ma­ree Daf­fara (87) mi­nus five in a game of Con­sis­tency Sin­gles while Heather Brown (118) took the points over Janet Mor­timer (92) mi­nus 5.

This year the Proser­pine Bowls Club has de­cided to run a Se­nior Sin­gles com­pe­ti­tion with mod­i­fi­ca­tions of the rules to make the games shorter.

Norma Daniels de­feated Flo O’Han­lon 15-7; Joy Jef­fries took down Cathy Holmes 15-9 while Noelie Dibben had the last laugh over Bar­bara Dam­mash 15-13.

Two so­cial games were played in the af­ter­noon, ei­ther side of tea time.

John Lah­ney and Dot Hin­schen were vic­to­ri­ous over Trudy Hanne and Arthur Wil­liams 14-9 while Norma Daniels and Bar­bara Dam­mash had the bet­ter of Fran Porter and Joan McGrath 12-7.

On Tues­day a team trav­elled to Wan­garatta (Bowen) to com­pete in the In­ter­town Shield. For full re­sults see next week’s pa­per.

The club is host­ing a trivia night this week­end from 7.30pm.
