New committee set for bowls club
A NEW committee has been finalised with familiar faces following the Proserpine Bowls Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week.
Positions are mostly the same from previous committees, with Brian Cooke (patron), Philip Brown (president), Shane Spann (senior vice-president), Dale Haack (junior vice-president and providore), Martin Corr (secretary), Wayne Handley (assistant secretary, assistant treasurer and greens’ director), Kevin Thorogood (treasurer), Barry Saroglia (games’ director) all on board.
Other committee members include Shane May, Dan Robinson, John Henderson, John Lahney, Ross Reville and Jim Quod while the selectors are Shane Spann, Wayne Handley and Barry Saroglia. The match committee includes Philip Brown, Martin Corr and Barry Saroglia and the club intends to nomi- nate for divisions 1 and 5 in 2015. On Sunday afternoon 12 players enjoyed ideal conditions at the Proserpine Bowls Club.
Arthur Williams, Dot Hinschen and Kevin Thorogood took down Fran Porter, Philip Brown and Gail Camm 25-11 while Jeanette Calway, Barbara Dammash and Rob Taylor defeated John Lahney, John Dammash and Heather Brown 22-15.
The club had a working bee on Monday morning and would like to thank everyone in attendance for their assistance.
Last Wednesday afternoon there were some great bowls played in two games of Consistency Singles and three games of Senior Singles.
Joan McGrath (123) defeated Maree Daffara (87) minus five in a game of Consistency Singles while Heather Brown (118) took the points over Janet Mortimer (92) minus 5.
This year the Proserpine Bowls Club has decided to run a Senior Singles competition with modifications of the rules to make the games shorter.
Norma Daniels defeated Flo O’Hanlon 15-7; Joy Jeffries took down Cathy Holmes 15-9 while Noelie Dibben had the last laugh over Barbara Dammash 15-13.
Two social games were played in the afternoon, either side of tea time.
John Lahney and Dot Hinschen were victorious over Trudy Hanne and Arthur Williams 14-9 while Norma Daniels and Barbara Dammash had the better of Fran Porter and Joan McGrath 12-7.
On Tuesday a team travelled to Wangaratta (Bowen) to compete in the Intertown Shield. For full results see next week’s paper.
The club is hosting a trivia night this weekend from 7.30pm.
