Aces aplenty on ten­nis courts

THE school hol­i­days have pro­vided an in­crease in ten­nis traf­fic over re­cent weeks, with a swarm of so­cial play­ers hit­ting the courts.

Last Tues­day af­ter­noon pro­duced a round of scin­til­lat­ing ten­nis, with the boys and girls ex­e­cut­ing stun­ning fore­hands and strong back­hands.

Tues­day night fea­tured a top match be­tween Tad Now­icki and Thomas Koeck, while Thurs­day night ten­nis had the likes of Daniel Scott, Keith Miles, Chris Phillips and Matt New­ton on show for a round of dou­bles.

Satur­day af­ter­noon topped the week off with all courts in ac­tion.

The club wel­comed back Norm Hold and in­tro­duced a new­comer in Raylene Ras­mussen. Jenny South­ern also joined the Satur­day af­ter­noon crew, who ex­e­cuted a se­ries of long ral­lies.

In ju­nior ten­nis news, train­ing over the school hol­i­days proved a suc­cess, with play­ers aged five-15 all thriv­ing. Jessica Ren­ton, Emma Carr, Jesse Nicholson and Cooper Friend were stars, show­ing they can well and truly match it with the best.

The coach­ing pupils for the week were Pa­trick and Matthew Cowan for con­sis­tent lessons.

The club would also like to con­grat­u­late ju­niors Amy Hunger­ford, Emma Bradtke, Re­beka Beveridge and Matthew Hen­ning for their ef­forts in tour­na­ments in Townsville and Ayr over the school hol­i­days.

Fit, Fun Ten­nis – the up­beat car­dio work­out on a ten­nis court, re­sumes tonight from 6.30pm and will con­tinue on Fri­day at 9am.

Just Do It Ju­nior ten­nis hits off again on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 13.
