WHILE he didn’t get a win in the prized Bowen Cup, Saturday still proved a fruitful outing for Mackay trainer John Manzelmann.

Manzelmann had winners in races one and three at the Bowen Turf Club at the weekend, led by the Lee Attard ridden Rocket Billy Rebel in the 1470m Class B Handicap.

The four-year-old gelding finished four lengths clear of the field to collect $6500.

Strike Zone and Windsor Gold rounded out the top three.

Later in the day it was Manzelmann’s Katherine Gorge who joined the party, winning the 1200m Benchmark 55 by 1.5 lengths over Tuppeny’s Opinion and Illusions.

Adrian Coome rode the four-year-old mare to victory, starting from barrier nine.

Bill Kenning’s Semi Written was also victorious on Saturday, cleaning up the field in the 1200m Maiden.

The four-year-old gelding, ridden by jockey Frank Edwards finished ahead of Who’s Your Caddy and Richie Pocket to win $7150.

Outsider Star Truce, trained by Olivia Cairns, triumphed in the 1100m Open Handicap despite starting the race at $15.

The five-year-old gelding won by just 0.2 lengths over Owen Cullen’s Dream’N’Ignite.

Lokelani rounded out the top three while pre-race favourite Sammy Junior ($3) ran sixth.
