CANNONVALE boxer Dan McCormack will step into the dark this weekend when he takes on his fifth career boxing bout.

The Whitsunday Martial Arts Club product will contest Battle in the Beaches on Saturday, but he has no idea who he will be fighting.

Match-ups aren’t determined until the day of the fight, but it’s business as usual for McCormack in his preparation.

“I’ll weigh-in at 8am then go away while they match-up for the night,” he said.

“I’m aiming for 73kg but it’s up to yourself and what you want to fight and how you want to fight.”

Like the event, which is shrouded in mystery and anticipation, McCormack’s decision to attend was equally spontaneous.

“I only found out last weekend, so I’ve only had two weeks to prepare but I’ve really enjoyed it,” he said.

“I’ve had a week to get stuck in and get as fit as possible on short notice.”

The builder has been boxing for one-and-a-half years, after originally gaining interest as a high school student several years ago, and has accumulated an impressive 4-0 record in the ring.

“Hopefully I can get another win this weekend then have a break before starting again,” he said.
