Crash stops traf­fic

A TWO ve­hi­cle crash stopped traf­fic in both di­rec­tions for about half an hour on Shute Har­bour Road, Can­non Val­ley on Sun­day af­ter­noon.

The in­ci­dent, which hap­pened at 3.15pm out­side Plants Whit­sun­day, re­sulted in two driv­ers and four chil­dren taken to the Proser­pine Hos­pi­tal.

Whit­sun­day Po­lice se­nior con­sta­ble Ian Ni­chols re­ported that a Hilux util­ity, trav­el­ling east, pulled over on the left-hand side of the road to let a mo­tor­bike pass then did a u-turn.

The sec­ond car trav­el­ling west to­wards Proser­pine – a Ford Fal­con with four chil­dren as pas­sen­gers – crashed into it.

“The other ve­hi­cle [Ford] did four flip rollovers and then landed back on its wheels,” Con­sta­ble Ni­chols said.

The driver of the Hilux util­ity was charged with driv­ing with­out due care and at­ten­tion.
