Wool­worths team wins bowls com­pe­ti­tion

LAST Wed­nes­day night the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club crowned the lat­est win­ners of the Business House Bowls com­pe­ti­tion.

Wool­worths were pre­sented with the field for se­ries 13 at last week’s pre­sen­ta­tion, hav­ing dom­i­nated all com­ers.

Business House Bowls wrapped-up the se­ries with a boys against girls fix­ture, with the lat­ter vic­to­ri­ous.

The next sea­son of Business House Bowls will start on Oc­to­ber 29 – the last for the year.

Men’s play last Wed­nes­day was down on num­bers, with just 10 play­ers tak­ing part.

Win­ners on the day were Al­lan Leis, Peter Law­ton and Keith Beetham, who de­feated David Zim­mer­mann, Steve Tat­tam and Jim Cairns 23-16.

Mean­while Nik Fairn­bach, Eric Bot­tle and Jack Dob­bins edged out John For­nasiero, Col Howes and Herb Se­comb 29-27.

Bare Foot Bowls was not played on Fri­day night, as the Zonta Group took over the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club for a fundraiser.

Bare foot play will re­turn this Fri­day.

On Satur­day the club hosted the first round of the Mixed Pair’s cham­pi­onships.

Kevin Jewell and Margo Stan­ley were vic­to­ri­ous over Steve Tat­tam and Jill Spencer 25-23.

An­drew Bell and Betty Nicolle won com­fort­ably over Ladda Pur­die and Bruce Pur­die 37-18 while Bob McMa­hon and Henny Tat­tam took down Nik Fern­bach and Jo Howes 2725.

The sec­ond round of the Mixed Pair’s cham­pi­onship was played on Sun­day, where An­drew Bell and Betty Nicolle had the last laugh over David Dias and Louise Ma­hony 20-16.

Kevin Jewell and Margo Stan­ley were also win­ners, hav­ing de­feated Henny Tat­tam and Bob McMa­hon 2313.

Sun­day so­cial play had 14 bowlers in ac­tion, form­ing one game of triples and two of pairs.

Rick Wil­liams, Mau­reen Barnard and Jack Dob­bins had a big win over Al­lan Leis, Keith Beetham and Sharon Ken­drick 36-12, while Eric Bot­tle and Bert Eyken­boom ousted Peter Law­ton and Mar­garet Heeney 29-17.

Steve Tat­tam and Jenny Ry­der rounded out the day with an ex­cit­ing draw with Nik Fern­bach and Noela White­head 23-23.

There was no ladies’ play this week.
