Mu­sic fans gear up for fes­ti­val

WHIT­SUN­DAY mu­sic lovers are in for a treat at the 2014 Air­lie Beach Mu­sic Fes­ti­val from Novem­ber 7-9.

This sec­ond an­nual event will again fea­ture 74 acts, play­ing in 18 venues across Air­lie Beach.

More than 250 mu­si­cians will be on show, per­form­ing a wide range of mu­si­cal gen­res from reg­gae to rock, blues, coun­try, folk and even hip-hop.

Co­me­dian Steady Eddy is also on the line-up this year as a guest MC.

Aussie rock leg­ends such as the Scream­ing Jets, Mark Seymour (Hunters & Col­lec­tors), Jon English, The Ra­di­a­tors, Shane Howard (Goanna), Phil Em­manuel, Kieran McCarthy, and Kevin Borich, will rock the big top tent at the idyl­lic lo­ca­tion of the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club. Last year’s crowd favourites 8 Ball Aitken, Wanita Queen of Honky Tonk, the Ma­son Rack Band, Blue Ru­ins, Hill Billy Goats, Lance Friend, and The Bo­s­tocks are all mak­ing a wel­come re­turn for 2014.

This year there are eight re­gional win­ners from the fes­ti­val’s Pass­port to Air­lie Bat­tle of the Bands com­pe­ti­tion, all of whom will fight for a cov­eted spot on the main stage at a ‘de­cider’ bat­tle, hosted by Mag­nums Ho­tel, with the win­ner to be cho­sen by the fans.

The Fes­ti­val of­fi­cially starts at 10am on Fri­day, Novem­ber 9, with mu­sic in venues from Air­lie’s Club Croc Ho­tel to the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club and almost ev­ery­where in be­tween.

Ticket hold­ers have the op­tion of bar-hop­ping on the main street or en­joy­ing the free trans­port pro­vided to de­liver them to the outer venues of their choice.

The head­lin­ers will play in the main tent at the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club from 5-12pm on the Fri­day and 4-10pm on the Satur­day and Sun­day. Only 3000 tick­ets are avail­able for the main event and pro­moter Gavin ‘Butto’ But­lin has warned mu­sic fans not to wait as they are al­ready sell­ing fast.

“We came close last year and we ex­pect to sell out be­fore the event this year,” he said.
