North­ern Beaches In­vi­ta­tional win for Kin­n­ear

MICHAEL Kin­n­ear has teamed up with Sub­ur­ban’s Peter Black­burn to win an in­vi­ta­tional event in Mackay at the week­end.

Sev­eral Proser­pine bowlers took to the road for the North­ern Beaches In­vi­ta­tional 4s; how­ever it was Kin­n­ear who laughed last in tan­dem with Black­burn.

Closer to home John Lah­ney and Heather Brown de­feated Norma Daniels and Philip Brown 21-18 over 28 ends while Jeanette Cal­way and Rob Tay­lor took down Fran Porter and Bar­bara Dam­mash 34-17.

Janet Mor­timer, Lois Read and Joy Jef­fries were also win­ners on the day, beat­ing Arthur Wil­liams, Dot Hin­schen and Gail Camm 18-15 in a triples’ match.

The game of Con­sis­tency Sin­gles sched­uled to be played last Wed­nes­day was de­layed while Jim Quod and Shane Spann won a men’s B Pairs out­ing on for­feit.

In­stead Spann played a mixed game, tak­ing down Heather Brown 25-15 in a match last­ing 23 ends.

The card miss­ing from last week’s re­port has been found, with Fran Porter, John Dam­mash and Barry Zill­mann win­ning over Trudy Hanne, John Hen­der­son and Bar­bara Dam­mash 22-19.

The club would like to ad­vise that nom­i­na­tions are open for the Val and Jean De Boni Memo­rial Day on Satur­day, Novem­ber 8. A team of four is re­quired to play.


Last Wed­nes­day there was one game of Se­nior Sin­gles played.

Dot Hin­schen de­feated Trudy Hanne 17-14 in a hotly con­tested game.

In so­cial play, Norma Daniels, John Lah­ney and Jim Quod de­feated Janet Mor­timer, Lill Burke, Arthur Wil­liams and John Dam­mash 2011 while Car­lie Al­bert­son and Joy Jef­fries won over Fran Porter and Gail Camm 22-20.

On Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 29 the Proser­pine Bowls Club will host St He­lens for the Friend­ship Shield.

Proser­pine hasn’t won this award yet, but is striv­ing to change that this year.

The team for this year’s com­pe­ti­tion is Noelie Dibben, Joy Jef­fries, Dot Hin­schen and Heather Brown; Norma Daniels, Flo O’Han­lon, Gail Camm and Joan McGrath; Janet Mor­timer, Lois Read, Heather Pat­ullo and Ma­ree Daf­fara.

Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 5 will see a Con­sis­tency Sin­gles game be­tween Lois Read and Heather Brown played, while Norma Daniels and Dot Hin­schen will contest a Se­nior Sin­gles match.

The club would also like to ad­vise those in­ter­ested in at­tend­ing the Mel­bourne Cup Day event to book ta­bles for the day.
