Mixed netball underway in Whitsundays
A NEW season of mixed netball is underway in the Whitsundays.
As a result of last year’s successful competition, a mixed tournament has returned to Wednesday nights.
The season will run for eight weeks, having already commenced play at the start of the month.
The round-robin format will see each team play five shortened games each night.
Twelve teams are currently registered, including outfits from Hamilton and Hayman Islands.
“The competition is all about having fun,” Whitsunday Netball Association president Liz Youd said.
“As the football season has ended, this is a great way for the guys to be a part of our association and join in the fun and play with or against their wives, partners, mums and sisters.”
The mixed season follows a brilliant ladies’ season, which saw The Buzz and Shooting Stars winners.
The Buzz claimed the Agrade title with victory over Midgets, while Shooting Stars took down Seadogs to win the B-grade crown. Michelle Crossley’s stellar performance in the grand final was recognised with the A-grade MVP title.
Likewise Cassidy Webb starred for Shooting Stars in the B-grade decider.
The Annual General Meeting for the Whitsunday Netball Association will be held at the Whitsunday Sportspark’s netball courts on Wednesday, November 18 at 6.30pm.
In other news, the Bendigo Bank has donated $2000 worth of post pads to the Whitsunday Netball Association.
