Gate opens for Dave’s vic­tory

PROSER­PINE golfer Dave Gates pro­duced a round of 39 to win the week­end’s 18-hole sta­ble­ford.

With two teams of play­ers away com­pet­ing in the re­gional fi­nals of the Holden Shootout, a re­duced field of 32 men and six ladies took part on Satur­day.

Gates carded 39 to beat run­ner-up Perri Simp­son (38) – who fin­ished sec­ond on a count­back from Vic Feld­man.

In the run­down were Michael Cragg, Gary Scot­ford (37), The­u­nis Ven­ter, Rob Stan­ley, Trevor Paroz, Lance Lloyd (36), Peter Krause, Peter Lewis and Peter Fox (35).

The ladies win­ner was El­speth Scot­ford with 36, fin­ish­ing ahead of Mandy Pat­ter­son (33).

Near­est-the-pins went to Jim Dow­ell (no. 2 and 13), Mandy Pat­ter­son, Gary Scot­ford (9) and Greg Walker (16).

The two-shot club was shared by Paula Wron­ski, who birdied 13, and Rob Stan­ley.

On Thurs­day 60 play­ers turned out for a stroke event in two di­vi­sions over 18 and nine-holes.

Win­ner of di­vi­sion 1 was Michael Ward who carded 63 to fin­ish ahead of Mick Bur­rows (64).

Wally Rein­tals pipped Bren­dan Me­harry on a count­back to claim di­vi­sion 2 after both play­ers fin­ished on 63.

Brian Smith, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther, Vic Feld­man (68), Wayne Temby, Trevor Paroz (69) and Dar­ren Jones (70) fin­ished in the ball run­down.

The di­vi­sion 2 run­down com­prised Tom Flem­ing (64), Steve Barry (65), Jim Cochrane, Joe Tay­lor (66), Jim Dow­ell and Mark Thomp­son (67).

The nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion was claimed by Bren­dan Me­harry, who won on a count­back from Bill Jesser on 31.

Wally Rein­tals (31.5), Gavin Noo­nan, Ken Wyl­lie, Steve Barry (32), Mark Thomp­son and Joe Tay­lor (32.5) fin­ished in the ball run­down.

Near­est-the-pins went to Si­mon Dob­bins (2), Bill Jesser (9), Lance Lloyd (13) and Jim Dow­ell (16).

This week Satur­day play­ers will contest the Monthly Ho­tel Metropole Sta­ble­ford while Thurs­day’s field will fight out a sta­ble­ford in two di­vi­sions.

Tee times are avail­able from 7.30am on both days but those in­ter­ested are urged to reg­is­ter at the pro shop.


Last Sun­day the Dawnies took on the back nine.

Beryl Nos­wor­thy was ul­ti­mately pro­nounced the win­ner, after she fin­ished in a three-way tie on 48 with Ted Evans and Mark Co­hen.

Near­est-the-pins went to Bruce Upchurch (13) and Mick Bur­rows (16) while Beryl Nos­wor­thy won the snake put­ter com­pe­ti­tion.

The least num­ber of putts went to Jock An­der­son (13) while Paul Grace won the Brad­man (65/65).

This Sun­day the Dawnies’ round will be fol­lowed by a bar­be­cue.


Last Tues­day the ladies con­tested a two-ball am­brose, with a com­pet­i­tive field of 21 en­joy­ing per­fect con­di­tions.

Mandy Pat­ter­son and Jenny Houn­sell won the day with 69.75 while Ti­ina Rand­mae and Toni Clauss fin­ished sec­ond with 70.5 ahead of Jenny Houn­sell and Marlene Gray on a count­back.

Beryl Nos­wor­thy won a chip-in for her ef­fort on no. 13 while Mandy Pat­ter­son and Jenny Houn­sell (3), Ti­ina Rand­mae and Toni Clauss (14) and Ber­nice Petersen and Sue Smith (11) each claimed near­est-the-pins.

Next week the ladies will host a sin­gle sta­ble­ford be­fore the McNeill Monthly Medal takes place on Novem­ber 5.
