New edition of our boating bible is out
THE 10th edition of the Whitsundays’ boating bible 100 Magic Miles has now been officially released.
Written and illustrated by David and Carolyn Colfelt, this 2014 edition reflects the latest developments in the area, of which Mr Colfelt says “there have been many”.
“Since the 9th Edition Revised was published in 2012, several of the island resorts in the Whitsundays have shut their doors, and some new owners are planning multimillion dollar developments,” Mr Colfelt said.
“On the mainland there has been extensive redevelopment at Port of Airlie, with a modern cruise terminal operated by Cruise Whitsundays [and] a bus terminal, and there is renewed interest in new housing lots and other commercial development around The Boathouse apartments and shopping complex.”
Mr Colfelt said the latest edition of the book also detailed the “huge facelift” given to the Abell Point Marina, with its expanded parking facilities and other amenities.
“It is on track to become a major part of the social fabric of the Whitsundays with new open public spaces, restaurants, a yacht club and new incentives for marina occupants,” he said.
Meanwhile the book’s information on anchorages has been completely updated to reflect the latest situation on the Whitsunday waters concerning moorings, reef protection marks, current fishing regulations and the many changes in facilities for yachties.
“A majority of the pages in the book have had some addition or amendment to reflect the current situation,” Mr Colfelt said.
The 10th edition will sell at a recommended retail price of $89.95 – the first change in price in the last five years and one Mr Colfelt says reflects an increase less than the rate of inflation.
It is available from Windward Publications Pty Ltd or via www.100magicmiles.com.
