Tarmac and Dirt racing champs this weekend
THE Whitsunday Sporting Car Club will host the final round of the Tarmac and Dirt Championships this weekend.
The two-day event will see drivers tackle both types of terrain, racing around Tonker Park on Saturday before returning on Sunday for a date with the Whitsunday Raceway.
The championships are one of the biggest events in the club’s calendar, and secretary Kym Hall is expecting plenty of support.
“It’s certainly one of our major races,” she said.
“It’s the fourth and final round [of the championships] so we’re at the nitty gritty part now. We’re looking at about 30 [drivers] for the weekend.”
The quickest lap of the day in each category will win overall and a variety of vehicles are set to take part – making it a must see for any car enthusiast.
“We range for anything from a Lotus to mini clubman, Hyundai Excels to V8 Falcons or Commodores and little Lasers... there’s a wide variety of cars,” Hall said.
Camping is available for the weekend while dinner and breakfast costs $5 each.
Drinks are available on both days while lunch is BYO.
Registrations are available on the day.
