Game­fish tour­na­ment a huge suc­cess

THE REELAX Garmin 2014 Light Tackle Game Fish Tour­na­ment proved a hit at the week­end, with fish­ers al­ready ask­ing for more.

On a wild, wet week­end in pris­tine con­di­tions more than 120 peo­ple hit the wa­ter for the an­nual com­pe­ti­tion which kicked off on Fri­day morn­ing.

The VMR fired the shot­gun and par­tic­i­pants didn’t stop un­til Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Whit­sun­day Game Fish Club mem­ber Bob Spees is al­ready an­tic­i­pat­ing big things for 2015 fol­low­ing another popular event. “It’s go­ing to be even big­ger,” Mr Spees said.

“A lot of peo­ple are al­ready ask­ing about it.”

Mr Spees la­belled this year’s tour­na­ment a huge suc­cess and a mas­sive boost for the Whit­sun­days with vis­i­tors from across Queens­land com­pet­ing.

“It’s great for the Whit­sun­days,” he said.

“Peo­ple came from Cairns, Townsville and Bris­bane so it brings peo­ple to the area.”

A PI­RATE'S LIFE: Wayne Jup­pen­latz, Ryan Kelly, Sher­man Wong, John Moore and Pat Lo­gan were just some of the crews who dressed up for the tour­na­ment.
