Lewis de­fies Lloyd to win on count­back

PROSER­PINE GOLF

PROSER­PINE Golf Club stal­wart Peter Lewis has edged out Lance Lloyd to win the Monthly Metropole Sta­ble­ford on a count­back.

Lewis carded 42-points to win Satur­day’s event.

In a field of 36 men and 12 ladies, the run­down for the event com­prised Peter Stone, Peter Krause (41), Chris Bai­ley, Michael Cragg, Greg Walker, Al­bert Pini (40), Vic Feld­man (39), Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther and Kelvin Stephens (38).

The ladies’ win­ner was Kath Borer, on a count­back from Jo Muller (43).

Near­est-the-pins went to Dave Gates (no. 2), Ross Richards (9), Paula Wron­ski (9), Wendy Bradley (13) and Gary Scot­ford (16).

The two-shot club was shared by Larry Muller, who birdied no. 9, and Rob Stan­ley (13).

In other news, a field of 51 took to the course on Thurs­day.

Win­ner of the di­vi­sion 1 18-hole sta­ble­ford was Chris Doblo (41), ahead of Kym Hill (40). Si­mon Dob­bins, Bill Woods (39), Gavin Noo­nan (38), Barry Mor­timer, Wayne Temby (38) and Trevor Paroz (36) com­prised the ball run­down.

Di­vi­sion 2 was claimed by Garry Flan­nery, who won on a count­back from Vic Feld­man (42).

The run­down in­cluded Wally Rein­tals (42), Ron Lit­tle (41), Peter Scrivens (40), Mal Carter, Dave Thomas (39) and Ernie Hol­stein (37).

The nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion was won by Wally Rein­tals (23) ahead of Bill Woods.

In the run­down were Peter Scrivens, Wayne Temby (22), Ron Lit­tle, Scott Wardroper, Vic Feld­man and Paul Douth­waite (21).

Near­est-the-pins went to Dave O’Con­nor (no. 2), Wayne Temby (9), Gavin Noo­nan (13) and Chris Doblo (16).

This Satur­day is the last chance for play­ers to qual­ify for the Medal of Medals, with the last Air­lie Beach Ho­tel Monthly Medal event for the year.

Thurs­day’s play­ers will contest a ver­sus par com­pe­ti­tion in two di­vi­sions over 18-holes plus a nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion.

DAWNBUSTERS

Sun­day saw the Dawnies play the front nine with Mark Co­hen (43/47) lead­ing the way.

Run­ner-up was Al Scott with 52/47 while third went to Larry Muller (41/48).

Near­est-the-pins went to Scott (no. 2) and Vic Feld­man (9).

The snake put­ter and Brad­man were won by George Steven­son (65/66) while Mick Bur­rows had the least amount of putts (14).

This Sun­day the monthly mug will be played on the back nine.

LADIES

Last Wed­nes­day the Proser­pine ladies con­tested a flag stroke game, end­ing where the flag is set.

Twenty play­ers took part but it was Deb­bie Nialle who pre­vailed with 71, ahead of Ber­nice Petersen (72.

Jan Shuwalow was third (73) fol­lowed by Viv De­mar­tini and Pam Casey (74).

Lyn Muller had the least putts (29), while near­est­the-pins went to Jenny Houn­sell (no. 6) and Deb­bie Nialle (12 and 16).

A match play game was played, with Pauline Red­path los­ing to Jan Shuwalow on the 19th hole.

Novem­ber 5 will see the ladies contest the McNeill Build­ing Monthly Medal for a game of stroke and putts.

Play­ers are re­minded to wear pink and to bring prizes for the raf­fle.
