Lewis defies Lloyd to win on countback
PROSERPINE Golf Club stalwart Peter Lewis has edged out Lance Lloyd to win the Monthly Metropole Stableford on a countback.
Lewis carded 42-points to win Saturday’s event.
In a field of 36 men and 12 ladies, the rundown for the event comprised Peter Stone, Peter Krause (41), Chris Bailey, Michael Cragg, Greg Walker, Albert Pini (40), Vic Feldman (39), Pascal Neunreuther and Kelvin Stephens (38).
The ladies’ winner was Kath Borer, on a countback from Jo Muller (43).
Nearest-the-pins went to Dave Gates (no. 2), Ross Richards (9), Paula Wronski (9), Wendy Bradley (13) and Gary Scotford (16).
The two-shot club was shared by Larry Muller, who birdied no. 9, and Rob Stanley (13).
In other news, a field of 51 took to the course on Thursday.
Winner of the division 1 18-hole stableford was Chris Doblo (41), ahead of Kym Hill (40). Simon Dobbins, Bill Woods (39), Gavin Noonan (38), Barry Mortimer, Wayne Temby (38) and Trevor Paroz (36) comprised the ball rundown.
Division 2 was claimed by Garry Flannery, who won on a countback from Vic Feldman (42).
The rundown included Wally Reintals (42), Ron Little (41), Peter Scrivens (40), Mal Carter, Dave Thomas (39) and Ernie Holstein (37).
The nine-hole competition was won by Wally Reintals (23) ahead of Bill Woods.
In the rundown were Peter Scrivens, Wayne Temby (22), Ron Little, Scott Wardroper, Vic Feldman and Paul Douthwaite (21).
Nearest-the-pins went to Dave O’Connor (no. 2), Wayne Temby (9), Gavin Noonan (13) and Chris Doblo (16).
This Saturday is the last chance for players to qualify for the Medal of Medals, with the last Airlie Beach Hotel Monthly Medal event for the year.
Thursday’s players will contest a versus par competition in two divisions over 18-holes plus a nine-hole competition.
Sunday saw the Dawnies play the front nine with Mark Cohen (43/47) leading the way.
Runner-up was Al Scott with 52/47 while third went to Larry Muller (41/48).
Nearest-the-pins went to Scott (no. 2) and Vic Feldman (9).
The snake putter and Bradman were won by George Stevenson (65/66) while Mick Burrows had the least amount of putts (14).
This Sunday the monthly mug will be played on the back nine.
Last Wednesday the Proserpine ladies contested a flag stroke game, ending where the flag is set.
Twenty players took part but it was Debbie Nialle who prevailed with 71, ahead of Bernice Petersen (72.
Jan Shuwalow was third (73) followed by Viv Demartini and Pam Casey (74).
Lyn Muller had the least putts (29), while nearestthe-pins went to Jenny Hounsell (no. 6) and Debbie Nialle (12 and 16).
A match play game was played, with Pauline Redpath losing to Jan Shuwalow on the 19th hole.
November 5 will see the ladies contest the McNeill Building Monthly Medal for a game of stroke and putts.
Players are reminded to wear pink and to bring prizes for the raffle.
