Char­ity ride at­tracts big field

PROSER­PINE BMX rid­ers put the pedal to the metal for a cause at the week­end.

The Crankin for Can­cer Car­ni­val at­tracted 190 rid­ers to the Les Stagg BMX track on Satur­day, with rid­ers trav­el­ling from Cairns, Townsville, Ayr, Mackay, Sa­rina, Walk­er­stone, Mo­ran­bah and Rock­hamp­ton.

By­ron Chauntler won the Crankin for Can­cer race, while also claim­ing the 11year boys di­vi­sion.

Other win­ners on the day in­cluded Is­abella Al­lan (10year girls), Tay­lor Kerr (15year girls), Kira Al­lan (pro women) and Peter Lit­tle (pro men).

Lit­tle also won the Dash for Cash worth $250 while the club’s mini wheel­ers stole the show early. Air­lie Frisch and Bryn Kehres starred in the 2-4 year di­vi­sion while Levi Mor­ris, Sa­vanna Al­lan, Gemma Jenkinson, Ry­der Kehres, Cooper Green, Ky Porter, Jett Oliver, Toby Jenkinson, Ben Knox, Ab­bie Green, Jesse Frisch and Cooper Knox took cen­tre stage for the Sprock­ets (4-7).

Proser­pine BMX Club sec­re­tary Sharon Jenkinson said it was a great day of rac­ing with 190 en­tries.

Jenkinson also paid trib­ute to the club’s var­i­ous spon­sors for mak­ing Satur­day’s car­ni­val hap­pen.
