Bryce Fraser blasts 72 in Canecutters cricket win
BRYCE Fraser has guided Canecutters to a comfortable win over Valleys in the second practice match of the Proserpine cricket season.
Two full-strength sides took to the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds on Saturday, with new faces mixing with regulars from Warriors, Canecutters and Valleys to form two strong sides in a 30-over contest.
Canecutters won the toss and batted first, but got off to a shaky start thanks to some tight bowling from Zane Smith (1/13) and Aaron Regan (1/8).
Struggling at 2/11, Bryce Fraser arrived at the crease for Canecutters, and after offering an early chance at midwicket, cashed in on the Valleys’ attack.
Fraser slugged 72 before his Warriors’ team-mate Hayden Russell (3/32) dismissed him thanks to a sharp catch from Regan.
Daniel Muller (27) added the charge before he was dismissed LBW off David Hobson (2/34).
Canecutters’ innings then crumbled, as Dale Mengel (2/ 33) and Josh Dyke (1/21) cleaned up the tail to finish the innings at 157 in the 29th over.
In reply Valleys never got going, with their batsmen plagued by poor shot selec- tion. Opener Scott Hardy showed promise in his 32 before Ben Dray (3/21) rearranged the timber. Other than Hardy’s cameo, there weren’t any sizeable contributions, with Aaron Regan (14) and Dale Mengel (14) the next best scorers.
New comer Daniel Muller (2/26) and Darren Williams (3/ 22) proved their worth while Hayden Russell (18 not out) hung around.
Ultimately Valleys would be dismissed in the 24th over with just 110 on the board.
Another warm-up fixture will be played this Saturday before the season proper begins in November. In other news from the club, the Proserpine Cricket Association will reveal its new practice facility on Friday.
The club was successful in its grant application and was subsequently rewarded with new cricket nets.
Presentation for the new facility will start at 11am where the club will be providing food and drinks.
