Comment by the Chair of the Tourism Stategic Advisory Group

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY BUSINESS - Jeff Aquilina

TODAY, we have two important events, the WMDL Annual General Meeting in the morning of Thursday, October 30 and the next WMDL Networking Night from 6pm-8pm tonight.

The WMDLNetworking Night will be held at the new Cruise Whitsunday Maritime Terminal. This state-of-the-art facility is a fantastic new arrival and departure point for visitors to the Whitsundays. Anecdotal feedback from locals and visitors alike has been very positive. Cruise Whitsundays has continuously demonstrated its commitment to growing tourism in the Whitsundays and I am looking forward to hearing an update from the company at this week’s WMDL Networking Night. If you haven’t registered to attend the networking event, please contact us today on 4948 5900.

On the weekend it is then time to head up to Bowen for the 2014 Gem of the Coral Coast Festival. The festival promises a lot of fun with a street parade, tomato eating relay, dance presentations and many more activities. It is a great community event and I encourage all of you to visit Bowen on the weekend – join in the fun at this event, explore the stunning beaches or take in the views from Flagstaff Hill.

Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate one of WMDL’s staff members, Tash Wheeler. Tash was awarded Queensland State Finalist of the 2014 Young Tourism Professionals Award by the Australian Regional Tourism Network. This is a fantastic achievement and the acknowledgement of Tash’s contribution to the development of regional tourism is well deserved.
