Whitsunday Coast Airport in top 10
THE Whitsunday Coast Airport is among the country’s top 10 for on-time arrivals and departures according to figures for 2014.
Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney said the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development’s 2014 annual report showed 88.3 per cent of departing flights and 90.8 per cent of flight arrivals were on time at Proserpine last year.
“Whitsunday Coast Airport was eighth for on-time arrivals and ninth for ontime departures out of all Australian airports in 2014,”she said.
“During this same period we saw passenger numbers increase by 13.7 per cent, see- ing nearly 265,000 passengers pass through the airport.”
Cr Whitney said the ontime performance was a fantastic achievement, especially given this growth in passenger numbers and the introduction of a new airline partner, Tigerair, and new Sydney route.
“Congratulations must go to our airline partners, ground crew and airport staff for all their hard work during the airport’s best year on record,” she said.
“We anticipate passenger numbers will be even better this year with continued growth in all the current routes and the introduction of direct flights to Melbourne starting from June 2015.”
