Tourist suf­fers seizure on dive

A 31-YEAR-OLD Chi­nese tourist is lucky to be alive af­ter nearly drown­ing off Hay­man Is­land on Satur­day.

The man, who was with his wife in a pri­vate tour group, suf­fered a sus­pected seizure while div­ing in the early hours of the morn­ing.

RACQ CQ Res­cue were called to the in­ci­dent at 10am when it be­came clear he was in need of fur­ther med­i­cal at­ten­tion.

He was trans­ported to Hay­man Is­land by boat where the res­cue he­li­copter could land safely.

The man was treated at the scene by CQ Res­cue’s on-board doc­tor and emer­gency para­medic.

He was air-lifted to the Mackay Base Hos­pi­tal in a sta­ble con­di­tion for fur­ther treat­ment and ob­ser­va­tion.

At the time of go­ing to press on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, he had not been dis­charged from hos­pi­tal but was still re­garded to be in a sta­ble con­di­tion.
