Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

IT was pleasing to report last week that Whitehaven Beach had again been named the best beach in Australia and the South Pacific in the 2015 TripAdvisor awards.

The other good news from TripAdvisor was that Airlie Beach was named in the top destinations in Australia.

The top three were Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The next was Port Douglas, followed by Hobart, Cessnock, Airlie Beach and then Byron Bay, Canberra and Darwin.

It is interesting to note that Port Douglas was the only other regional Queensland destination besides Airlie to make the list.

It is also interesting to note that Cessnock in the Hunter Valley in NSW also made the list. There is no doubt that Cessnock’s attractions include the wineries and the bands and other events that are held at those wineries.

It is great to see that Airlie in its own right made the top ten list.

It is events like Airlie Beach Music Festival and Airlie Beach race Week that help Airlie Beach to become known as a destination in its own right.

Tonight, the music festival will get national exposure through “Blokesworld" on Channel ONE.

The festival may be eight months away but if it can start to gain momentum now and tickets start to sell early, this will ensure it is a success this year.
