Bowlers perform admirably in Mackay
SHANE Spann and Heather Brown more than held their own at the Mackay and District Mixed Pairs over the weekend.
In the first round they defeated Nuggie Pratt and Ken Wadel from North Mackay, while in the second round they took down Betty Nicole and Man Isgro.
Their run came to an end in the third round, defeated by Delia Walsh and Peter Blackburn (Souths Suburban) by just one shot.
In social play on Sunday Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Hanlon and Philip Brown took down John Lahney, Gail Camm and Joy Jeffries 24-23 and Fran Porter, Dot Hinschen, Wendy Pomeroy and Barry Zillman ousted Norma Daniels, Jeanette Calway, Arthur Williams and Barry Zillmann 27-8.
The Men’s Club Championship Triples will be played this Saturday from 9.30am, with Dan Robinson, Shane May and Wayne Handley to play Neil Robinson, John Henderson and Bruce Upchurch while Ted Cullen and Steve Lawrie are set for Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton and Grahame Kinnear.
In other matches, Arthur Williams, Jim Quod and Philip Brown will play Jarrod Murray, Michael Kinnear and Barry Saroglia while Martin Corr, Scott Kinnear and Ben Cutrone are drawn against Gavin Milne, Jonathan Bye and Shane Spann.
The semi-finals will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 1.30pm while the finals will follow on Sunday.
On Tuesday four of the club’s ladies travelled to Northern Beaches to play in their Beach Girls Day, where Norma Daniels, Janet Mortimer, Lois Read and Maree Daffara came fourth.
Last Wednesday, Trudy Hanne, Vicki Spann and Lillian Harris travelled to City Club with Heather Brown representing Proserpine at Mackay City’s President’s At Home Day.
At Proserpine on Wednesday, Cathy Holmes, Fran Porter, Flo O’Hanlon and Maree Daffara defeated Mary Hedgelong, Wendy Pomeroy, Joyce Patullo and Barbara Dammash 21-14.
In other news, today’s the club’s official opening day with players from Airlie and Wangaratta joining in.
Play will run from 1.15-3.15pm and those attending are reminded to bring prizes for the cent sale.
Additionally the draw for the Club Championship Fours has been completed, with play to start on March 11 at 1.15pm. Janet Mortimer, Wendy Pomeroy, Lois Read and Maree Daffara will play Norma Daniels, Jo Peasley, Barbara Dammash and Joan McGrath while Vicki Spann, Fran Porter, June Blair and Heather Brown face Annette Patullo, Amy Hart, Flo O’Hanlon and Heather Patullo. The next ladies’ committee meeting will be on Monday.
