Home in­va­sion to be heard in higher court

A CAN­NON­VALE man, ac­cused of two counts of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm and one of break­ing into a dwelling at night with in­tent, will an­swer to th­ese charges in the dis­trict court.

Jay Colin Mar­shall’s case was heard in the Proser­pine Mag­is­trate’s Court on Mon­day, when he was com­mit­ted for trial in Mackay on a date to be ad­vised by the Depart­ment of Public Pros­e­cu­tions.

Mar­shall has been on bail since his orig­i­nal court ap­pear­ance last Novem­ber when po­lice al­leged he as­saulted a man at a Can­non­vale home, be­fore head­ing to an­other res­i­dence and re­morse­lessly as­sault­ing an­other man in com­pany with a co-ac­cused.

Po­lice pros­e­cu­tor El­iz­a­beth Smith ob­jected to the ini­tial ap­pli­ca­tion for bail, which was nonethe­less granted. Mar­shall will now re­main on bail un­til his trial.
